Hosted by Keith 'Daisy' Adams

I am a cricket coach for the Royal Navy Cricket Association who has a passion for coaching, not just in the cricket environment but also when I'm at work supporting others to maintain and fix aircraft.

I started my coaching journey in 2015 and it has featured heavily in my approach to leadership when in the workplace. Working with large teams in the military, there is a time and place for direct leadership but the recognition for a coaching approach on a day to day basis is extremely beneficial in getting the best from the teams I work with.

Why does this podcast exist?

As a cricket coach going through the qualification levels, I found that the really enjoyable parts of the courses were the conversations outside of the structured sessions. I realised that so many people had so many great ideas and perspectives and those simple conversations sparked so much thought and interest in me.

I realised that not one single coach has all the answers; I certainly don't.

After looking around to see how I could continue to listen to other coaches talk about their experiences, I realised that there wasn't anything out there that provided this... So I decided to start recording some of the conversations I was having. Now I am in a position to capture and share with people all around the world by publishing these podcasts.

My role as a coach

As a coach, it is my responsibility to take the player on a journey to allow them to increase their self awareness to achieve their goals.

I believe that it is important to get to know and understand the person before you can maximise the development of the player. To do this, I must be curious rather than judgemental.

I have a strong "Player centred, coach supporting" approach to coaching. The relationship that is built between coach and player is one based on trust; building trust is initially the key role of the coach.

Why do I enjoy coaching?

This has been a question I have continually asked myself throughout the stages and decision points in my coaching journey and below are a summary of reasons why I enjoy coaching:

1. Seeing the enjoyment a person has during their own journey.

2. Every engagement is an opportunity to create a better version of myself.

3. An opportunity to overcome challenges and deliver results.

4. The ability to refine the skills I already have.

5. Understanding how much coaching skills can impact me as a parent and as a leader in the workplace.

6. Achieving my own personal aspirations.

7. Ensuring others can be supported during their development journey.

8. Build relationships and lifelong friendships with people.

9. Create an environment that others enjoy being in.

10. Assisting in coaching a persons inner coach.
